Joanna Sellick is a painter working in oils and mixed media. Her work explores personal themes of protection, motherhood, childhood, femininity, and wildness.
Born and raised in London, Joanna is based in the UK. Her artistic journey began at Central Saint Martin’s College of Art, where she earned a BA in Textile Design. After working in a range of creative industries, she returned to painting six years ago. An intensive period of life painting at Heatherley’s School of Fine Art sparked her growing interest in autobiographical subjects, leading to the development of her vibrant, imaginative style.
Joanna creates large, figurative, dreamlike paintings that explore her relationship with her surroundings, her family, and her identity as a woman. In the studio, she works on smaller mixed-media pieces to spark ideas and build momentum for her larger works, which gradually take shape on the canvas.
Joanna has exhibited across the UK and Europe, most recently showing with the Society of Women Artists at The Mall Galleries last year. She is currently developing a body of work for her debut solo exhibition in London this year.
Alongside her studio practice, she continues to study part time at Heatherley’s School of Fine Art in London, and is a member of The Creativity Cafe founded by Perienne Christian.
